Recipe: My Favorite On-The-Go Snacks

Like many of you Brain Warriors, I am always on the go. On any given day, I might be giving a talk at an event, filming a video or podcast on set, driving my teenage daughter to an audition, or assisting in my nieces’ school. Basically, I’m on the road A LOT! I have learned the hard way that I absolutely need to keep my body fueled with good nutrition throughout the day. It’s just as important for you.

If you’re running errands or get stuck working late and you don’t have any healthy snacks on hand, your blood sugar can crash. This changes your brain chemistry in ways that make you more likely to make bad decisions about food—hitting the vending machine for chips, ordering pizza delivery, or digging into the candy bowl at the front desk in the office. By being prepared at all times with snacks you love that love you back, you can stay on track and keep your brain performing at its best.

I want to share one of my favorite snacks that I keep in my handbag at all times. Go-Well Trail Mix is loaded with brain healthy omega-3 fatty acids, good-for-you berries, and tasty coconut. Plus, it is so easy to make. I usually prepare a big batch and then divvy it up into separate containers I can throw in my bag. It’s the perfect snack whenever you need a few quick bites of something.


  • 1/4 cup raw cashews
  • 1/4 cup raw slivered almonds
  • 1/4 cup raw walnuts
  • 1/4 cup raw cacao nibs
  • 2 tablespoons goji berries (unsweetened)
  • 2 tablespoons dried mulberries (unsweetened)
  • 2 tablespoons dried blueberries (unsweetened)
  • 2 tablespoons shaved coconut (unsweetened)


Mix all ingredients well and store in an airtight container until ready to consume.
