I’m so happy to see that Spring is on the horizon! Even though I live in southern California, there’s something about the official end of winter that feels so refreshing. I love that soon there will be more flowers blooming on the shrubs and trees, the chilly nights are behind us, and we’ll be doing more things outdoors.
That said, the coming season is also the perfect time to straighten up any disarray in our lives. Since most of us are so busy, it can be easy to let personal things fall to the wayside, but when too many of them stack up, we get stressed out and overwhelmed.

Can you relate?
If so, a helpful way to offset this is to get a head start on Spring cleaning by organizing, not just your home, but also other important aspects of your life too.
Organizing Your Mind
Our lives have many dimensions, the most important of which is our mind—the thoughts, beliefs, and emotions that guide our behavior and decisions. Keeping it organized is fundamental to staying on track with short- or long-term goals. If you’re struggling with this, it’s important to take time to figure out what’s in your way.
To help you, I recommend doing this:
- Make a list of the positives—the successes you’ve had toward your goals—even if they’re small things.
- Write down your obstacles, such as an overload of responsibilities, lack of motivation, time-management issues, and so forth.
- Identify how much control you have over the snags you’re facing and choose to focus only on the things you can control—not the ones you can’t.
Keep your thoughts in order and use all of this information to create a step-by-step plan for reaching your target.
Keeping Your Health Organized
Do you skip yearly appointments because you tend to forget, are too busy, or plain just don’t want to go? If the answer is yes, it’s time to stop that. Good health is everything, but it’s easy to take it for granted until something bad happens. Please don’t let yourself get to that place!
The reality is, no one really likes going to the doctor and being poked and prodded during a check-up or annual exam or going to the dentist and having them dig around your mouth. BUT to stay on top of your health, you just have to do these things. So, if you’re behind on your routine or preventative care appointments, call your doctor’s office and schedule them ASAP, add the dates to your calendar, and commit to going.
Prioritizing your mental health is equally important because dealing with depression, anxiety, or other issues can interfere with the quality of your life and your physical well-being. So, if you do need some support with your issues, I encourage you to reach out soon and set-up a time to talk with a professional counselor.
Organize Your Spaces
Having your mind and your health organized lends itself to creating better order in your environment. When there is less mental and emotional clutter in your head, the idea of having to Spring clean your home and other spaces won’t feel like it’s going to crush you. So my advice is to spend a little time each weekend making a dent in getting your various environments organized. Open the windows, put on some great music, and go to town on those cluttered drawers and closets. Fill bags with the clothing and other things you no longer want or use.
When you’re finished, take a moment to really appreciate how having everything organized helps you feel calmer and more grounded. Then take the items you no longer want to a donation center that helps people in need.
As you drive away, smile and know that in one small way, you’ve helped the lives of others be just a little bit better.
