It has been nearly two months since we rang in the New Year. How are you doing with your New Year resolution? When you make a resolution, you are resolving to yourself to do something. It’s a promise, a commitment. Yet, nearly half of the people who make NY resolutions give them up before the end of January. Let’s change that trend.

It’s important to keep the promises you make to yourself. In fact, according to the Longevity Project, the number one predictor of longevity was conscientiousness, whether people did what they said they were going to do. So let’s renew your resolutions today and resolve to be successful!

According to Statistic Brain, the top resolutions people make are to practice healthier eating, to lose weight, and to make life improvements.  But a lot of times we don’t follow through with these. The reason for this is that a lot of times these goals are unattainable and too vague.

Instead of making irrational goals, try taking control by breaking them down into smaller changes that will better your brain and body health in the near future. Tiny steps are easier to achieve.

1. Ask Yourself Why

Why are you making these decisions? To execute a decision it is best that you know the motivation behind your goal and the abundance that can come from it.

2. Surround yourself with like-minded and encouraging people 

This is your tribe! Doing this will help you keep each other on track and hold each other accountable.

3. Rid Yourself of Little Lies that Sabotage Health

If your goal is to have a better lifestyle, then tell yourself that you are capable. When you continuously tell yourself lies, like “I can’t afford to get healthy” or “my family has Alzheimer’s Disease in my genes” you end up setting yourself up for failure. The vast majority of health problems get driven by the bad decisions people made and chose to believe. The truth is that nothing is more expensive than being sick.

4. Be flexible!

It’s okay if your goal did not end up fitting in your schedule the way you planned. Instead, embrace the little changes and be responsible. For instance, if your goal was to prepare your lunches all week but you can only manage to do it half the time, be prepared. Make yourself aware of where healthy restaurants will be located in your area. (BWW Cookbook on the road warrior). If you make a mistake and blow it one day, just get up and start over. Don’t give up!

5. Don’t Overwhelm Yourself

Progress takes time, and progress will show up if you are armed and ready with a strategy. Make the commitment to yourself. Being curious about the times you struggle is essential to learning from them. Sometimes writing it down can help. Start with little goals and then progress to bigger ones.

If you fell off the wagon it’s never too late to look at what went wrong, how to change it, and execute it like a Brain Warrior. There is no failing, only falling.
